Alignment with Singapore education direction
This approach supports learning that builds inquiry and experiential practice, strengthens collaboration, and develops authentic products and applications beyond the classroom.
Design thinking course Singapore formats for schools
Choose the format that fits your timetable and learning goals. All formats can be customised by student level, cohort size, theme, number of sessions, and total hours.
Programme Outline
All formats follow the same learning flow, scaled to the duration you choose:

Introduction to design thinking
Your students are introduced to EDIT Design Thinking® through a structured, hands-on workshop. They will learn the core stages from empathise to test, map users and needs within their school community, and frame clear “How might we…” questions before generating early solution ideas.

Learning journey or real world context
Your students will go on a partner site visit (e.g. community group, social initiative, public space) to observe how people interact, how support systems are built and where gaps or tensions appear.

Empathise and define
Your learners will map key groups in school, run simple interviews/observations and turn insights into empathy maps and “How might we…” questions around belonging, well-being, communication or collaboration.

Ideate, divergence and convergence
Your learners will use divergent and convergent ideation tools to generate many ideas, cluster and evaluate them, then select a few strong concepts to develop as team projects.

Prototype and test
Your learners will turn concepts into quick prototypes such as storyboards, mock-ups, scripts or mini-pilots and test them with peers and teachers, refining ideas based on real feedback.

Presentation and reflection
Your learners will share their final concepts and design journey with school leaders, teachers and classmates, explaining the issues they tackled, what they learnt, and how their ideas could be implemented or piloted.
What schools receive
Student prototypes and tested concepts
A final showcase presentation and reflection
Classroom ready prompts and activity structures for educators to reuse
Optional sharing session with educators to support continuation after the programme

Case Studies
See how schools and partners across Singapore have used our programmes to turn real challenges into student-led solutions.
Reimagining the Classroom at Methodist Girls’ School
In partnership with Methodist Girls’ School, students from Sec 1–4 used EDIT Design Thinking® to reimagine their classrooms as more welcoming, flexible and student-centred spaces. Over four workshops, they empathised with teachers and peers, ideated and prototyped new layouts, furniture and interaction points.
The percentage of students who believed they could solve difficult problems without clear answers rose from about 65% to 84%.
- >56 design thinking ideas
- 41 physical prototypes ideas

Reimagining the Library at Ngee Ann Secondary School
At Ngee Ann Secondary School, students and teachers applied design thinking to transform their library into an inclusive, community-centred hub. Through a learning journey to Punggol Regional Library, empathy work, ideation and prototyping, they developed concepts such as focused study pods, flexible collaboration zones and well-being corners.
Confidence in solving difficult problems increased from 33% to 73% after the six-session journey.
- >30 design thinking ideas
- 8 physical prototypes ideas

Pei Hwa Secondary School – Designing a Cleaner, Greener Campus
At Pei Hwa Secondary School, students used design thinking to tackle issues such as littering, food waste, recycling and hygiene across canteens, classrooms and toilets. Through framing and scope sessions, vision boards and design goals, they proposed solutions like clearer bin systems, composting ideas, reminders on digital boards and class routines that build ownership of shared spaces.
The programme significantly increased students’ understanding of design thinking (from 48% to 78%) and boosted their collaborative and creative confidence by 24%.

Learning Trip with Jane Goodall Institute (Singapore)
Sembawang Secondary School students participated in a Jane Goodall learning trip to explore conservation and environmental stewardship. They gained insights into wildlife protection, sustainability, and the importance of coexisting harmoniously with nature.
Back at school, they applied these lessons through design-thinking projects, creating initiatives to promote environmental awareness and develop actionable solutions for a greener future.
- 43 design thinking ideas
- 24 physical prototypes ideas
